2013 Buick Encore – Boise, ID

The compact crossover SUV segment is without question the fastest growing segment in the automotive industry. Buick has been one of the few brands not to offer one, but that will all change with the 2013 Encore. And make no mistake; the Encore is compact. At 168 inches long, the Encore is about 20 inches shorter than a Chevrolet Equinox. Inside, however, the Encore should be plenty roomy for passengers, comfortably taking on adults in the second row. Indeed, there’s nearly as much rear-seat legroom as in the Equinox.

Peterson Buick will receive their first 2013 Buick Encore around Feb 2013. View updated inventory at Peterson Chevrolet Buick Cadillac: petersongm.com

There’s little mechanical relationship between those two models, however, and that should help silence any dreaded accusations of “badge engineering.” We also expect the Encore to be quieter and more luxurious than Chevrolet or GMC’s small crossovers and offer the materials quality evident in Buick models like the LaCrosse and Verano. To foster further solitude in the Encore’s cabin, an active noise suppression system fends off sound from the engine and road by emitting noise-cancelling frequencies through the speakers. For power, the 2013 Encore will have a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder making 140 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission will be standard and all-wheel drive is available.

The 2013 Buick Encore should be priced slightly higher than its Chevrolet and GMC cousins, while coming in considerably under luxury-branded models like the Cadillac SRX. Competitors will include models like the Audi Q3 and Mini Cooper Countryman. It will go on sale in early calendar year 2013, so check back for more information on pricing and driving impressions as it becomes available.
